How did we calculate your results?

Many factors determine whether it’s time to repair or replace your equipment. If you notice any of the signs below, contact us to diagnose and help you resolve the issue right away.

Age is certainly not the only factor that goes into assessing the condition of your air conditioner, but it is certainly the biggest. The CDC recommends replacing your air conditioner if it is more than 10 years old. However with proper and regular maintenance, an air conditioner can last longer than that and still function smoothly. If your equipment is right around 10 years old and has been running smoothly, we are happy for you!  Just keep a lookout for any future signs of potential breakdowns. Remember that as equipment gets older, it gets less efficient. If you notice issues worsening, you can schedule an appointment with one of our expert energy consultants to provide you with a free estimate for when you’re ready to replace your equipment.

The older and more worn out your cooling equipment gets, the more energy it uses. If you’ve noticed that your energy bills are going up without any other major changes in your home (remodeling, new baby in the home, long-term guests, etc.), then the culprit may be your equipment nearing the end of its useable life. Repairs and maintenance can only help you regain some of your equipment’s efficiency – the best solution for this problem would be to spend that money on a new, more efficient system instead of the extra energy costs!

Uneven temperatures between rooms usually go hand-in-hand with the age of your equipment. Newer AC equipment uses advanced multi-speed and variable speed technology to more evenly distribute air between rooms – a technology that just wasn’t available for older units. If this is a concern for your home, one of our expert energy consultants can help you find a solution that will keep you comfortable wherever you are in your home!

This issue can lead to some other issues on this list, like uneven temperatures and high energy bills. However this could be a sign of various issues with your equipment, and doesn’t necessarily mean a total equipment replacement is necessary. Start by having one of our expert service technicians look at your equipment – they will be able to tell you if the issue is due to a failing or damaged part, or if it’s a larger issue that would require more extensive repairs.

As air conditioners start to fail or lose efficiency, they aren’t able to control humidity levels as well as a new system. If you’ve noticed that the air in your home is too most and humid or even too dry, your equipment may be starting to fail. However, there are other correctable issues that could cause variations in humidity level. Start by having one of our expert technicians take a look at your equipment. A new part, repair, or even the addition of an Indoor Air Quality product may be able to correct this issue for you.

The best smell for your air conditioner to have is no smell at all. Common odors that are a sign of an issue are either burning or a musty scent. These could be caused by an electrical issue or even mold growth in your ducts from high humidity levels. Have a technician look at your equipment and repair any parts that may be causing the odor.

Your air conditioner has one important job – to keep you cool. When it stops doing that, then it’s clear there’s a problem. The good news is that warm or room temperature air coming out of your vents could mean you just need a repair. Have a technician start by checking your refrigerant and compressor before getting an estimate for a new unit.

The most common causes of weak airflow can be remedied with some repairs to your equipment. It could be a damaged indoor blower or a blocked air duct. However if your unit is more than 10 years old and you’ve been experiencing other issues, this may be a sign of more serious problems that would require replacement.

No air conditioner is completely silent – they all make at least a little noise. Particularly loud, unusual, or new noises should be concerning and addressed immediately. Start by having a technician look at your equipment to diagnose what’s causing the noise. Your technician will be able to tell you if a repair will correct the problem or if you should get a free estimate from an energy consultant.

The cost of air conditioner repairs can add up quickly. If you’ve had to call one of our technicians several times in the last couple of years, then you may be better off putting that repair money toward a new, more efficient system.
