SMO Energy

Now more than ever, we are reminded of the importance of keeping the air we breathe as clean as possible. Indoor air quality products such has UV lights can help clean the air in your home by sterilizing virus and bacteria particles in your home’s air. SMO Energy offers a wide variety of indoor air quality products to fit the specific needs of your home. Among our wide variety of products are UV lights, which are a quick and easy way to sterilize the germ and virus particles that could be circulating throughout the air in your home.

Numerous health studies have shown that Ultra Violet Germicidal Irradiation (UV lights) to be effective against bacteria, mold, and viruses by breaking down the DNA of the particles. UV lights are used by hospitals and water treatment facilities worldwide to help disinfect and stop the spread of germs. Whereas the sun is a natural source of UV light, it is not effective inside of buildings. FEMA has estimated that 10% of colds are caught outdoors and 90% of colds are caught and spread in indoor environments.

We offer two main UV light options:

air conditioning bacteria killer

UV Light

Our standard UV light is installed in your existing furnace or air conditioning system. It is an ultraviolet light that sterilizes virus and germ particles as they pass through your furnace or air conditioning system. It also eliminates 99% of mold spores on your AC coil, keeping those spores from circulating into your home’s air and allowing your system to run more efficiently (a clean system is an efficient system!).

AirBright

AirBright is a UV light with the extra benefit of odor control. It provides all of the same benefits of the standard UV light – sterilizes virus and germ particles as they pass through your furnace or AC system, and eliminates mold spores on your AC coil – while also eliminating odors. The odor control component transforms odor-causing airborne particles into water vapor, keeping the air in your home fresh and clean.

Frequently Asked Questions About UV Lights

The main difference between these two products is the added benefit of odor control. Both our basic UV light and AirBright options consist of a fluorescent light tube that are installed in your furnace or AC system. The AirBright option has an extra component (along with the UV light) that provides odor control by transforming odor-causing airborne particles into water vapor, eliminating the odors from the air in your home.

Air filters capture dust, pollen, bacteria, and virus particles as they pass through the system. Some of these particles are too small to be captured by the air filter and pass right through them, continuing to circulate through the air in your home. UV lights are able to sterilize these small particles that air filters cannot remove.

With both the standard UV light and AirBright, the UV light is on 24/7 and is continuously eliminating any mold spores on your AC coil. To sterilize the particles in the air throughout your home, air needs to be running through your system. If the temperature is moderate and you do not need your heat or AC running, setting your thermostat to “Fan On” will continue circulating air throughout your system and home so the UV light can continue to sterilize particles.
